John E. Ware, Jr., PhD, a thought-leader in the field of psychometrics and health outcome measurement, files for the articles of incorporation for QualityMetric.

02.20.98 - Company doors open
QualityMetric opened its doors for the first day of official business in Lincoln, RI.

12.07.99 - QualityMetric develops health survey consumer portal
QualityMetric develops its amihealthy.com consumer portal. Intended to provide customers with secure access to affordable and automated Internet-based health surveys, this portal was created to allow valuable health information to be gathered efficiently from a patient's perspective.

02.28.00 - DYNHA technology announced at National Press Club
QualityMetric announced the launch of a new generation of patient-reported outcome tools. Using computerized adaptive testing, QualityMetric’s Dynamic Health Assessments (DYNHA^®) were created to leverage the power, efficiency, and reach of the Internet to improve patient care and benefit the entire healthcare industry.

11.28.00 - SF-36v2 Health Survey with NBS becomes available
QualityMetric announced the release of a substantially improved version of the company’s core survey tool, the SF-36^® Health Survey. The many advantages of the SF-36v2^® Health Survey were documented, along with norm-based scoring (NBS), in a 239-page user manual available from QualityMetric.

06.29.01 - HIT-6 presented at International Headache Society
QualityMetric announced the development of the Headache Impact Test™ (HIT-6™), a patient-reported outcome (PRO) survey created in collaboration with GlaxoSmithKline. This PRO tool enables headache sufferers to effectively communicate the impact of headaches with their healthcare provider and work toward successful diagnosis and treatment.

02.18.02 - SF-8 Health Survey released in 40 language translations
In partnership with the Health Assessment Lab, QualityMetric released 40 language translations of the SF-8™ Health Survey, a brief, yet comprehensive survey for use in population health management.

03.07.03 - Asthma Control Test launched
QualityMetric announced the launch of the Asthma Control Test™ (ACT™), expected to improve the measurement and treatment of asthma both nationally and globally. The announcement came at the annual meeting of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology (AAAAI) in Denver, Colorado, with particular focus placed on how the survey will make it possible to properly treat and control the chronic disease.

04.08.03 - QualityMetric awarded two NIH Grants to test and develop DYNHA software
QualityMetric announced the award of two Small Business Innovation Research grants through the National Institutes of Health (NIH). This grant work included testing of the company's Dynamic Health Assessment (DYNHA^®) software to support health assessments of adults with chronic kidney disease and children with physical disabilities.

06.22.04 - Outcomes Insight Consulting Division formed
To accommodate the growing demand for measurement expertise and consulting services, QualityMetric announced the formation of the Outcomes Insight Consulting Division. Consisting of many internationally recognized scientists, this division was formed to support the increasing use of patient-reported outcome measurement in the healthcare industry.

11.02.04 - OGSR launched
QualityMetric announced the formation of the Office of Grants and Scholarly Research (OGSR), a group tasked with allocating, monitoring, and supporting royalty-free permission to use QualityMetric’s patient-reported outcome measurement tools in scholarly research.

10.13.05 - QualityMetric announced ability to predict medical expenses
QualityMetric announced the ability to predict per-person and per-month medical expenses with the use of its SF-12 Health Survey and new Medical Expense Predictor™ capability.

02.21.06 - SF-36 Health Survey used to substantiate label change for Thyrogen
Genzyme Corporation announced FDA authorization of a label modification for Thyrogen^®, based on a new analysis of data previously collected in a crucial trial that used QualityMetric’s SF-36^® Health Survey. This trial garnered the product’s previous regulatory filing and approval, while the new analysis demonstrated the improvement in quality of life for those using Thyrogen.

08.14.06 - Senator Jack Reed (RI) visits
U.S. Senator Jack Reed, who authored legislation to modernize America's healthcare system, visited QualityMetric’s corporate headquarters. During the visit, QualityMetric demonstrated its patient-reported outcome surveys and cutting-edge technology designed to assist companies throughout the healthcare spectrum with improving their products and the health of patients worldwide.

04.25.07 - Version 2.0 of Scoring Software released
QualityMetric released new software that scores many of its patient-reported outcome surveys, such as the SF-36v2^® Health Survey, faster, easier, and more accurately than ever before. Along with the ability to identify corrupted or missing data, the software also provides first stage depression screening, predicts monthly medical expense risk, and conducts SF-6D scoring.

10.04.07 - User’s Manual for the SF-36v2 Health Survey, Second Edition released
Seven years in the making, this 300-page manual was officially released. Part technical manual and part historical text, this manual remains a must-read for healthcare decision-makers and researchers, and provides everything a user needs to know in order to administer, score, and interpret QualityMetric’s SF-36v2^® Health Survey.

10.11.07 - $2 million NIH grant awarded for PRO measurement development in asthma
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) awarded QualityMetric a $2 million Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant to advance developments in patient-reported outcome measures for adults with asthma. This grant work included the integration of the latest research in modern psychometrics with QualityMetric’s DYNHA^® technology to create a precise asthma survey valid for routine monitoring of asthma impact, asthma control, and functional health and well-being across a variety of settings.

02.06.08 - Governor Donald Carcieri (RI) visits and recognizes QualityMetric as top innovator
Governor Donald L. Carcieri and Saul Kaplan, Executive Director of the Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation (RIEDC) visited QualityMetric as part of RIEDC’s 2008 Innovation Tour. The tour allowed the Governor the opportunity to recognize, support, and celebrate companies that make innovation a priority, foster strong business growth, and provide good, high-wage jobs for Rhode Islanders.

10.01.08 - Smart Measurement System launched
QualityMetric’s Smart Measurement^® System was officially launched when ActiveHealth^® Management selected the company to measure health status. This work focused primarily on the inclusion of QualityMetric’s SF-12v2^® Health Survey in the ActivePHR^SM personal health record as part of a pilot program.
