QualityMetric's Science Team offers broad experience in industry, academia and government
both in the United States and abroad. To learn more about our team, click below:
Jakob B. Bjørner, MD, PhD, Chief Science Officer
Jakob is one of the pioneers in applying modern psychometric theories to health status measurement. His research focuses
on development of item banks, modern psychometric methods, and software applications for psychometric analyses and
computerized assessment. In collaboration with Dr. Ware through the past 10 years, Jakob has led the development of
numerous computerized adaptive tests of generic and disease-specific health outcomes, including DYNHA®, the first commercialized
CAT system for assessing health outcomes. To date, Jakob has published 12 peer-reviewed papers about item bank and CAT construction,
one of which won the 2004 Article of the Year Award from the International Society for Quality of Life Research (ISOQOL).
Jakob was a senior research fellow at the Danish National Institute of Occupational Health and has previously worked at the University of Copenhagen,
where he received a gold medal for research on Quality of Life and HIV. He received his MD and a PhD in medical sociology from the University of Copenhagen.
Diane M. Turner-Bowker, PhD, Senior Scientist
Diane has more than fifteen years of experience in applied health and social sciences. Diane has been with QualityMetric for six years, prior to that working as a Senior Researcher for
the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. At QualityMetric, Diane provides leadership to a team of health outcomes professionals.
She is responsible for the development of the ASTHMA-CAT. Diane's recent research has focused on applying classical and modern (item response theory)
psychometric methods to survey development and secondary analyses of clinical trial data, and on evaluating cross-national differential item functioning. She is the recipient of
the Rhode Island College Alumni Honor Roll Award in Psychology, the Association for Women in Psychology Research Award, the Rhode Island College Faculty Award,
and is an Associate Member of Sigma Xi. She received her PhD and MA in experimental psychology from the University of Rhode Island.
Mark Kosinski, MA - Senior Scientist & Co-Director, Outcomes Insight™ Consulting
Mark has worked closely with Dr. Ware over the past twelve years, providing analytic support for the
SF-36®, SF-12®, and SF-8™ Health Surveys. Mark has been involved
in numerous methodological studies on the measurement of health outcomes, including the development
and validation of the SF-12 and SF-36 Physical and Mental Component Summary measures, the SF-8 Health
Survey, and the Headache Impact Test (HIT). In recent years, he has devoted most of his research efforts
to the development and analysis of item banks for computerized adaptive health assessments. Mark has
co-authored over 70 peer-reviewed journal articles related to the development and analysis of
patient-based assessment of health outcomes. Mark received his master's degree in Psychology from
Bridgewater State University.
Milena D. Anatchkova, PhD, Scientist
Milena joined QualityMetric in 2004. Before joining the company, Milena worked as a Research Assistant at the Cancer Prevention
Research Center, while pursuing her graduate degree in psychology at the University of Rhode Island. During that time, she participated
in the development, implementation and analyses of a number of large federally funded health behavior intervention and prevention studies
in the areas of smoking, diet, exercise, and alcohol consumption.
Janine Becker, PhD, Dipl-Psych, Scientist
Janine has previously worked as a Scientific Research Assistant at the Medical Clinic of Psychosomatic, Charité Berlin, where she
focused on the application of item response theory (IRT) and computerized adaptive testing (CAT) measures in psychiatric disorders.
Her position in Germany also included diagnosing mental disorders as an outpatient clinician. Janine successfully passed her PhD on developing
and validating a CAT measuring anxiety and has participated in developing CAT measures for assessing mood disorders and stress perception.
While working in Germany, Janine collaborated with Dr. Bjorner and his team on IRT-based CAT measures.
In 2004 she moved to the United States to join the Scientific Team of QualityMetric.
Anastasia E. Raczek, MEd, Senior Scientist
Stacy is a doctoral candidate in measurement research and evaluation at Boston College. She has been involved in educational, psychological, and
health outcomes measurement for the past 16 years. Before joining QualityMetric, Stacey served as a Research Associate in the Center for the
Study of Testing, Evaluation, and Educational Policy at Boston College, conducting research studies of large-scale assessments with complex sampling designs,
policy research, and program evaluations. She was part of the team of researchers at New England Medical Center's Health Institute devoted to the measurement of
patient-reported health outcomes, and also participated in validation studies of the SF-36® Health Survey.
Renee N. Saris-Baglama, PhD, Scientist
Renee has more than fifteen years of experience in health and social sciences. She has been with QualityMetric since 2003, trained and supervised by Dr. Ware
and Dr. Bjorner, both experts in HRQOL measurement and the application of modern psychometric methods to computerized adaptive testing.
Renee has participated in several health status measurement initiatives including the development of scoring software for use with the
SF-36®, SF-12®, and SF-8™ Health Surveys, development of the SF-10 for Children™,
and development of interpretation guidelines for QualityMetric's DYNHA system.
She holds a PhD and MA in experimental psychology from the University of Rhode Island.
Michael DeRosa, MA, Senior Outcomes Research Analyst
Michael joined the QualityMetric team in 2002. Previously he was a Graduate Assistant at Rhode Island College and a Research Assistant at the Bradley Hospital Sleep Lab in Providence, Rhode Island.
His varied academic and applied positions have provided him with experience in many dimensions of research including data analysis, data management, and research methodology.
Michael has been affiliated with various organizations that support these endeavors, including the American Psychological Association and various university organizations.
